The First…

Arctic Freediving was one of the first operators in Norway to offer in-water experiences with orcas and is still unmatched when it comes to ethical practices, quality and standards. Since its inception, we have made every effort to ensure our expeditions are as safe and ethical as possible, while at the same time placing an emphasis on education and promoting conservation and research in Norway and beyond.

Far more than just a ‘whale watching operator’, by following this approach and through the direct efforts of our founder (Jacques de Vos), some of the efforts we have been involved with includes:

  • scientific efforts for the local orca population (co-published peer reviewed research)
  • hands on support, as well as securing funding and sponsorships for Norway’s only full time orca research and conservation effort (Norwegian Orca Survey)
  • over 9 years of active research supporting institutions such as the University of Zurich and ETH.
  • building networks connecting international corporate entities and NGO’s with local research and conservation efforts.
  • more than 7 years of active government level lobbying for regulations in support of whale watching in Norway – the only commercial operator to have formal meetings with Norwegian ministers to push this issue.

Jacques de Vos / Arctic Freediving has been featured by, or filmed for Red Bull, National Geographic, The Smithsonian and multiple other international publications.

A Life Changing
Experience

Join a small group expedition to see orcas and humpback whales in their natural environment during one of the greatest natural events in the ocean...

Each winter between six and seven million tonnes of Norwegian Spring Spawning Herring enter the shallower fjords and bays of Northern Norway as part of their migration path.  Following these massive schools of herring, orcas and humpback whales arrive in great numbers and spend the winter feeding on the fish here.

Over A Decade
Of Experience

Arctic Freediving is led by founder and award winning photographer, filmmaker and expedition leader Jacques de Vos.

Along with his local North Norwegian partners at Boreal Yachting, their combined experience of the animals and local coastline ensures you the best time in the Norwegian Arctic possible.
