Orcas leaving a fjord at the end of the day with the younger one carrying something in the mouth. Orcas will often 'play' with natural debries and marine life in the water and can often be seen pushing jellyfish or toying with seaweeds.

We have it on his authority that the herring has already started moving towards northern Norway and along with them both orcas and humpback whales. We are very excited to see if we will have the same (or even larger) groups of humpback whales this season 🐋

We had some questions about our last post and how orcas are ID'd. For that post - there are not that many males around with fully collapsed dorsal fins, so 'Flappy' is well known, but in general you can ID orcas based on the marking they have in their 'saddle patch', as well as by the shape and markings of the dorsal fin.
As an example (swipe through the images): This underwater image was taken in 2016 during a carousel feeding event. When looking at the dorsal fin and markings of the male and referencing it to the Norwegian Orca ID catalogue (created and maintained by the awesome @norwegianorcasurvey) its is easy to ID him as NKW-831 🙂
